About
Bill Savarese

Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Communications, University of Denver, Colorado; and Danish International Studies, Copenhagen, Denmark.
1999–present: Designer/Muralist/Sculptor.
In 1999 I incorporated my business, William Savarese, Inc., and have worked on both large- and small-scale projects since. My client list is too large to list, and people seem to “find me” for new commissions all the time. I have painted murals for the cities of Phoenix, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and for Broward County. Public Art mural projects included community outreach and participation. Although the majority my work is painting murals, I have also worked in many other disciplines, including a large exterior bas-relief (20’X18’) of Apollo on a horse-drawn chariot at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
2010-–2014: Public Art Director, Oakland Park Main Street and Committee Member of Pompano Beach Public Art Committee
I served for more than two years in Oakland Park and a year in Pompano Beach, and enjoyed the work focused on community beautification. I was commissioned to paint the large mural of Jaco Pastorius by Oakland Park Main Street prior to
my public art position. In 2010 I won ‘Best Muralist’ in S. Florida by ‘City Link’ magazine for the Jaco
mural. I also taught a mural class in 2013 and 2014 for teenagers and was vice principal at Yellow Wood Community Learning Center in Ft Lauderdale.
1989–1996: Muralist/Artist in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I won a national mural competition in 1989 and began my career as a muralist. I was Founder of ‘Wall Street Art’, which was a group of artists financed by the EU and the Danish government dedicated to artistic beautification in the city of Copenhagen. Copenhagen was named ‘Cultural Capital” of all EU countries in 1996. I was commissioned to do two six-story murals. This was the beginning of my Public Art career.
1984–1989: Assistant Director for Swan Films in Copenhagen (Valhalla). Swan Films was the largest animation studio in Denmark until 1989. Together with the director, I was responsible for 130 employees and determining the artistic avenues our films took. I also worked as an animator, director, voice-over artist and background artist. I wrote dialogue in the animated film industry in Copenhagen for over 10 years.
